With the crazy number of changes going on within the cast, Gwen's return, and Uther's impending departure, right now is a really important time to lay everything out and make sure everyone's on the same page.
So! I'munna give some step-by-steps here, since our lovely Gemma is relatively new to the RP scene.
what to do.
Drop a comment here with the general mental / physical state of your character. What's on their mind lately? Is there anything they think they need to do, anything they're worried about or excited for? Just let us know what's happening with your character.
Tell us if there are any plots coming up that you're involved in. If your character will be leaving the city or staging a coup or anything else, just so we can plot around what's happening.
If there's anything in specific you think needs done or plotted out right now, let us know. We can work on that first and you can discuss things here with everyone that needs involved.
Anything else you think is worth mentioning!
There are no major game plots happening until mid-January so we have a lot of time to sort this stuff out. No pressure, take it easy, and let's all positive thinking!
I'll probably end up making a separate comment for Arthur's mental state, but I want to list out things I think are important to plot out immediately before I forget. Haha In no particular order:
Arthur going to find Gwen.
Last time, Merlin told Arthur Gwen was behind them by several years, which was really upsetting because he'd just come from his coronation and really wanted to have her support, but instead she didn't even want to say his name. Arthur will be really happy to have a Gwen that actually knows him, and he'll want to find her and talk to her about things instead of wondering if/when she'll actually look at him. Wants his BFF okay, don't judge him!
Morgana and Arthur talking about how to proceed.
Sort of vaguely mentioned on plurk, but Arthur really does want to talk about how much they've put each other through and how it's never been easy and it's never going to be easy and the future is no longer theirs, etc etc. let's hold hands and paint flowers on each other's faces.
The magic talk with Uther.
Before Toss abandons us, I want Arthur to kind of go have a normal dinner with Uther and talk about him using his god powers to save Mordred and just kind of let them openly say "holy shit, who are we even anymore." This is important to me cos it'll be like. Final closure, I think, just a moment for Arthur to think that everything isn't really awful and idk he just wants his papa okay. Stop judging, dammit!!
Discussing with Gwaine about the future! Finally!!
Gwaine is Arthur's only Knight in the city but he's also like. His bro, okay, and the weird dance with Merlin and Morgana is only going to split them apart if he doesn't make an effort to understand where Gwaine is in both Camelot and here in Asgard. Both canon events and in game, he just wants to get on the same page and make sure Gwaine is okay, cos he doesn't want to lose him in all the mess of shit that's always going on around them.
Training with Mordred.
Spoilers: Arthur is getting Mordred his first sword for Yule. It's going to have the runes from the good-luck charm Regina gave him ages ago engraved in it, since it'll be a training sword and not a real thing, and he just really really wants to help raise Mordred in a happy, healthy environment. Which means ignoring everything else that's happening in the house ahaha Mordred is too smart to fall for this weeps.
But yes, I'm up for this! Probably be one of the most difficult Serious Manly Conversations to get through with Gwaine, though, tbqh. "talk with arthur" translates to "be as stubborn and deliberately frustratingly dense as possible, ha ha ha nothing to talk about Camelot-wise brosef"
Okay time to see what's going on in Gwaine's World- excellent, party time. I'm tired as fuck right now, bear withme.
¬ GENERAL MENTAL/PHYSICAL STATE Well, he's in one piece at the moment, that's cool. LMAO YOU'D THINK AFTER LIKE 10 MONTHS HERE I'D BE BETTER AT THIS. uhh
Gwaine's probably ping-ponging between obnoxious around everybody and doing the quiet contemplative drinking thing when he's on his own. The plot with Gwen in Bad Moon Rising had a bit of an impact on him-- though it can be hard to figure out how to handle it since there wasn't so much a resolution there. I might have to type up some thought process stuff just to get that sorted so I can implement things better I guess. What I can say for sure is he's determined not to make it a thing that's brought up with Gwen who doesn't remember because it wouldn't be fair to have that on her shoulders.
Honestly I don't have a lot to say for him otherwise. I've been pretty shit about my activity and speed, so I haven't gotten him involved/out threading during a lot of big deal events. Gwaine is Gwaine, he just kind of does his thing. Man he misses the other knights, though. It's probably the least happy he's ever been in this game, and that's coming from a first day where he was all beat up and learned that everyone was hanging out with Morgana. :'| idk if you have questions or something i'd probably do better with some kind of actual direction in what i'm writing lmfadlsfkj i'm terrible at stuff right now. tl;dr he's pretty subdued for Gwaine in his personal time and probably feeling like the worst loserly knight choice for the only one in Arthur's service in Asgard lately what a surprise.
¬ UPCOMING PLOTS Nope. I'm thinking of giving him some kind of canon update but tbh I can't think of a canonpoint i'd want for it, so it's not likely to happen in the near future.
maybe one day i'll not be this lazy, and I will come up with a quality curse to place on him.
¬ ANYTHING ELSE? This is gonna be a really slow month for me, and I signed on for hiatus through it. There was a notice in the OOC comm too but I know I miss a lot of stuff so I thought I'd mention it here! Distracting holiday seasons do that to me. I've also been feeling pretty slow and unmotivated for him lately? He tends to be a static character in the way he behaves outwardly, and he's stubborn as hell about it, so it sometimes can feel like I haven't done anything with him at all. Which makes me look at his tags and put them off because I know how they'll generally go already. But that's the kind of risk I knew I was in for when I picked him up, so I'm doing my part in dealing with it and trying to do more in my brackets. I think I've really been failing on CR followthrough, too, which is especially sucky when I finally realize it. I think I need to let a couple of other things go to have more time to try being timely in Asgard again, so I'll try to have that sorted out before the new year rolls around!
idk i'm half asleep, i'm sorry about this. if something makes no sense just kick me. LONG STORY SHORT:
• gwaine is gwaine, if moderately subdued sometimes. • i am slow and working on motivation, also hiatused all this month and debating editing to have him lose his bracelet or something. • HE JUST WANTS TO PROTECT ALL YOU GUYS WHY DO YOU NOT SIT ON THE COUCH WHILE HE PACES THE PERIMETER • this comment has been 100% useful
I have been in a very very depressingly similar state with Arthur, as far as slowness and lack of motivation. I've had RP burnout for a few months now, though, so IDK if it's the same situation for you or not, but I'm definitely feeling the same and it has made it incredibly difficult to actually get anything done.
When I get like this, the best thing that I have found to push me through it is to find a specific direction I want to go and running with that. This might be part of why it's easy to feel stagnant with Gwaine because, like you said, he's generally the same smarmy asshole no matter what he's facing. In s3, his entire story arc is avoiding responsibility so he can fuck off and pretend not to care. S4 and beyond is him trying his best not to fail at his responsibilities even though he's still pretending not to care. It's like ???? Gwaine pls.
So I thiiink what might help is finding Gwaine some responsibilities. Of his own. I'm really sucking at reviving the Guard, half because everyone that signs up always ends up dropping not long after and half because burnout like I mentioned, but I could have Arthur make Gwaine a Captain so he's forced to start taking care of his own troops and whatnot? He'd still get to answer to Arthur but he'd also be his own leader-type-thing which is kind of where he was at s5, leaving room for genuine independence rather than pretending to be able to go his own way even though he's really pining for Merlin cuddles.
Or something of this sort, just finding something for Gwaine to do on his own and be more proactive in his own capacity. Do you think that might help?
I'm looking to shuffle my game load before the new year rolls in, because I think a lot of my burnout is probably coming from having too much on my RP plate. A lot of tags file right on into my inbox and then I can only find time to get through them once and a select few twice a day, which feels a lot like a chore. This time last year I know things were going a lot more smoothly and quickly for me, so I kind of have to examine the differences between then and now, and how to smooth those over.
even though he's really pining for Merlin cuddles
wow, accurate though, rude. how could you tell he's so subtle--
Annnd you basically put the biggest problem into words there. He is a butt of the highest order because even if he can't control all the crazy shit that happens in life, he can control how people see him reacting to it, and he likes to maintain being a butt of the highest order as such. "IT'S RAINING FIRE FROM THE SKY" "Wow guess we should've moved into a cave..." Which is fine a lot of the time, especially when I'm in a mood to just toss him around at various people! And it helps that I know there's more going on in his head than he bothers bringing up, which I try to include in brackets, though I don't want to seem like I'm hamming up an otherwise superfluous fun conversation thread at the same time. Plus lbr he's not always the brightest and sometimes he's just not thinking about stuff at all.
SO YES it gets to "well what else can you do with him" when I do get motivated enough to be timely. I know he is teaching a lot of hand-to-hand at the Citadel since Perce left, and that is also a thing I could try doing more with. I'm trying to figure some stuff out on that for when I return from the great hiatus-that-ate-us. Like wow I should look into who he is actually teaching and chat them up about a thread or some assumed CR. Or he could make a smarmy post telling people to come and learn how to punch other people in the face when they get caught flirting with their betrothed daughter the night before her wedding while also probably calling Arthur terrible at advertising. idk I have time to work on it.
signs up for the guard and immediately- actually I won't joke about that because I have a real Murphy's Law thing going. I think that could be helpful, though! Even though he'd also kind of "Arthur r u crazy i am barely responsible for my own sword."
During the months I feel like I've been doing nothing with this guy here he's been working as Arthur's Little Helper. He's taken the backseat okay this is actually a big deal. He's stepped down so much from his King position it's ridiculous and amazing.
He also saved Mordred using his magic during the mirror verse plot! This hasn't actually been threaded out, but Bee and I talked about it and I've been thinking we should probably. Play it out. When she has time. So that was a thing.
Basically, Uther's developed as far as I can take him. And while I've loved playing him as this Much Less Hateful Man, I feel like I'm not doing enough with him and my interests have shifted. Hence why I'm dropping him. And working on getting the Doctor more involved with the Merlin cast.
So this is an offer to wrap things up with him! I think, actually, that I'd like to have him chat with Gwaine? To be like you're a cool bro and a good knight, sort of like he did with Lancelot. It's a big deal, okay. He's adopted Arthur's values it's really amazing.
He also needs to talk things over more with his children. And a Pendragon family dinner needs to happen. He'll cook and everything, he's gotten good at it!
I'd like for him to meet Gwen and talk about her becoming queen too. It'd be really cool.
I just want all the things this last month let's do all the things. Make me weep more about leaving this cast make that happen. Sob.
Okay buddy if you're sure!!! he could offer to kiss it out but he's holding out for something more romantic.
Gwaine will not even know what to do with this conversation wow. "crap he's changed his principles and is acting like a decent human being shit i'll have to be mildly respectful to him now Lancelot would be able to tell me what that actually entails." :'|
So, there's a few things I should address for Merlin.
1. Overworking issues This is one of the main things stressing him out at the moment. Back in Camelot, he mostly took care of his, Arthur's, and occasionally Gwen and the knights' things. Gaius and his mother could manage on their own, and Gwen and the knights were the same, for the most part. Notice how I didn't't put Arthur on that list. In Asgard, however, there's the medic corps and the teacher's council on top of everything else. He had some funds saved up to manage these groups, but with the stuff he's providing for them, he's starting to stress overhow to keep everything running now. He's adding more shifts and projects (like the city guide) to his load and severly overworking himself. I will be putting up a log where he just crashes from this in the library. After that he'll be splitting the work with some other people.
2. Gwen's arrival/the threesome This one's more recent than the other! Though Merlin has known he romantic feelings for Arthur since February oocly, he started off supressing it so he wouldn't make things awkward. That lasted until Morgana figured out what was going on and confronted Merlin. Once he got used to the idea of he and Morgana both liking Arthur, and that Arthur might like them both as well, hea was much more open with his feelings. Gwen arriving kind of changes things for him and puts him back at square one. He knows Gwen and Arthur liked each otjer in Camelot, and Gwen being engaged to him in this canon point confirms that. Part of the reason he was so for the threesome was because he believed he and Morgana could make Arthur happy, but if all Arthur needs is Gwen, he isn't going to ruin that for his friends. SO he isn't sure what to do right now. Pretty sure Faithy, Adi, and I will be figuring this out soon!
3. Powers/mirror event Merlin is alittle troubled by what happened, but dying because of his powers isn't going to leave a lasting impression on him, thankfully. For one, he already felt the gods were telling the truth about that so it didn't come as a surprise when things started going wrong. He's also died twice before, and had his freak out about death the first time. I think the most noticeable thing about the event is that while Merlin appreciated having his magic again he is certain now that he could live without it if he had to choose between it and having hia friends happy in Asgard.
Aside from these things I would really like him to get closer CR with Gwaine and Mordred. With Gwaine, I definitely want them to talk about what happened during BMR and Gwaine's death.
